The New Tellus Order - what is it?
Hello, weary internet traveler and welcome to whatever I decide to make of this blog!
This blog is mainly an outlet for me to share my thoughts and feelings about my writing, my characters, anything regarding my hobbyproject called "The New Tellus Order", with anyone who is interested as I feel facebook is probably not the best medium for it. This way, if you're on here, you know what I do and what to expect.
So without further ado, let's start with some history.
For those of you who do not know me, the written word is in my blood (do not judge the status of this blog, I can do better,) I have written stories since I could put sentences together. It is something I know that I'm good at and I like sharing what I conjure up if I deem it good enough. That said, I'm a perfectionist so whatever I post will most likely get altered the following year.
But I digress.
This blog as stated above is where I will post stuff regarding my age old project "The New Tellus Order" which I have been obsessing about for several years. I self published the first book "The Human Codex" in 2014 but took it down recently as, to be honest, while it did have some fantastic parts, a lot of it was shit and cringy. It wasn't meant to make me a profit, it was just nice to see my name on something. Now I mainly just write for myself and happily share it with anyone who wants to know more.
The idea of The New Tellus Order was born nine years ago, 2013, in Malmö, Sweden while living with my mother and her then girlfriend at the time. I was working as a telemarketer desperate for that commission selling... selling... I honestly don't remember what I was trying to sell - vitamins or some shit like that. Hey, don't judge me, it was by far the worst job I've ever had and now I despise talking on the phone.
During this time I bought the entire catalogue of Gears of Wars (1-3) games and played through them vigorously on my trusty xbox 360. I loved them. I loved the brotherhood chemistry between the characters and the way they looked badass in their (somewhat comically giant) armour and the overall gameplay and aesthetic of the game was great. I also purchased the prequel book "Aspho Fields" and the graphic novel which I cannot remember the name of and in all honesty and shame, I think it might have perished in one of my moves. Needless to say, the franchise had my attention. So much so I started spinning on my own version of something similar.
I wanted something military, squad based characters with cool armour set in the future but still grounded in reality. I wanted to make it gritty, dirty and I didn't want to censor myself and decided to go all out on the bad language and the details in the gore.
The idea began cooking and I spent days drawing up timelines, trying to figure out a story, trying to get to know the characters before I'd even started writing. At work, between phonecalls I would draw up mindmaps and synopsis and doodle down general ideas about the plot.
I wanted to create something simple. Sort of a "monster of the week" thing with every chapter is a self-contained story sprinkled with at least one red line for a bigger story. Of course, being me, I can't write anything simple. By the time I had finished the first book a year and a half later (2014) I had already written scenes for book 2 and even 3 without really knowing how to exactly tie them into the story.
Alright then, but what IS The New Tellus Order?
Well, in general, it's about human beings living in another habitable solar system 115 years after ruining the Earth we know. But at it's core, the current double trilogy I'm currently working on, is about SQUAD Guard Lieutenant Cameron Tapper and his band of merry lawkeepers as they tackle not only the corruption that inhabits their city of Resurgo but also their private lives and whatnot (got to have that personal drama too yo.)
As stated above, the story about Cameron Tapper and his squad is planned for six books whereas the first trilogy is heavily war-orientated as the city of Resurgo is torn apart by civil strife between its most powerful parties. The second trilogy is the fallout of fighting and how Resurgo and its habitants handle the transition into democracy. The second trilogy is more focused on psychological aspect of storytelling.
The entire story will be unfoiled little by little on this blog so don't worry. We'll get into the nitty gritty sooner or later.
Writing is my therapy. I have a lot of pent up anger which is why I let myself be detailed when it comes to the more gruesome stuff. I take my frustrations out on my characters and I mostly prefer unhappy endings to the.. well, more happy ones. So you can sort of expect a lot of tragedy throughout this series as well as some wholesome moments. I can be nice to my characters too. They are my brainchildren after all.
I am currently working on book 3 and whilst I'm in somewhat of a hiatus right now I am still constantly thinking about it. My brain is actively chugging away on the series nine years later, putting together a 5 billion worded puzzle that my brain decided to start one day back in 2013.
I feel like I'm rambling so I'll leave it at that for now.
You can expect more Character anatomies, arc exploration, excerpts from the series and much more on this page in the future.
If you have read this far, thank you. I appreciate you and I am happy to have you at my side for this pretty trippy journey.
All the best
AJ Ralph
